5am: Staring at small, ceramic black cat with Halloween pumpkin…
First gift received from Father since infamous button when I was 18. Another interesting choice, I must say. Definitely an improvement, though I suppose that isn’t saying much seeing how the button was the product of a month’s worth of alcohol downed in one night.
One small question here, though… Why?
Whatever he’s smoking it must be good Or maybe it’s just the lingering effects of the LSD he got fed on his weekend jaunts to the psychiatric hospital in the ’60s.
Not that the reason matters. The figurine is just strange in the way that my interactions with Dad always are. And doubtless will remain.
What am I saying? My whole life is strange!
It’s purrfect ;)

Could be worse. He could have make an earwax sculpture for you. Or a small pillow made of belly button lint.
@Tadd – LOL Indeed. And I am appropriately grateful that it was neither of the above mentioned items.
If I say to you that it’s better a funny/strange relation than no relation whatsoever is better would you be angry at me?
Sorry.
But indifference hurts too much.
Love you.
Ana
@Ana – Not angry in the least, hun. I absolutely agree. It’s partly why I insist on having a relationship with him despite friends/family/shrinks who tell me I should drop him like a hot potato.
Purrfect, indeed :) It reminds me of one of my mantras: no gift is often the best gift.
@Ryan – heehe Good one!
Ummmm. Its his way of showing he cares? Or, at last that he thinks about you? That’s it, I’m outta ideas now. :)
@Svasti – Let’s go with that! It sounds good ‘eh. And if he can live with mild delusion then so can I ;)
Children and parents relationships are difficult at any age. My son just finished up a visit with us that went pretty well, but after he left I starting thinking it wasn’t as smooth as I thought. Days went by without him returning my call, causing even more second guessing on my part, and then, he called to tell me he had a wonderful time. And he missed me. Relationships are strange.

You said it, Mike! Reckon we only think we know what ‘normal’ is but if normal is anything really then it’s just the general weirdness that is being with each other.
Mom would always give me old ladies’ clothes from her shop as Christmas gifts. They usually smelled old too… wonder what she was trying to say? Luckily, she doesn’t have the shop anymore, but last Christmas she still managed to give me something from storage (ugh!) I usually smile and say thanks anyway.
@DJ Karma – Oh dear! Isn’t the smell unique? But yeah, you do just have to grin and go with it. What else can you do ‘eh?
