Sweet Sugar High.

This is a bit of random fun I wrote quite a while back but promised to dig up recently for a friend of mine. I thought I’d share because I’ve been far too serious this week. I used to have a fairly heavy sugar addiction going. I was rarely seen without a lollipop or some gum or whatever. Sugar is evil, however, so I eventually weaned myself off the stuff. Wasn’t easy but I’m told it’s good for me ;)

Ode to Sugar.

Sugar high, I’m set to fly,
Kiss this evil world goodbye.
I’m standing on my garage roof,
and thinking I can touch the sky.

I just skulled a tankard of Gatorade,
and I’m munching on my Milky Way -
I’m sucking down a Slurpee.
The whole Skittle rainbow
playing on my tongue.
It’s a sweet syrup sugar high,
I need more red food dye.

Chocolate Moove is my ultimate groove.
Coconut Ice I down in a trice.
My five food group diet,
is divided by brand.
This isn’t a vice.
I wouldn’t even think twice.

There really is no better way,
so please don’t say
you’ll take away my Chupa Chup away
if I don’t quit tap dancing
on your bed.
Oops, was that your head?

I want chocolate!
I want fudge!
I want crunchy caramel,
and hell, those candy cigarettes!
Remember those fake edible bones?
I need ‘em like you need the sun
so bring me, bring me, bring me some!

I’m shaking and I’m manic,
but don’t panic -
Diabetic coma is coming for me
but first I’ll puke in pastel,
a multi-coloured wave on a sugar sea.
So what if I passed out
hugging a garden gnome?
I could see he wanted me!
I’m going to climb that tree.

Sugar high, say goodbye,
bounce so high, hit the sky.
I know heaven’s made of candy
because the clouds are fairy floss,
and chocolate never loses its gloss.

I’m a manic monkey
and your sugar I will steal.
I need to jump high,
I need a new supply.

Look at me now, and how!
I’m SuperGirl.
I’m set to whirl.
Sweet sugar helps me to thrive,
I’ll suck this gum
and then I’m done.
I swear I’ll stop
before I drop.

Gimme, gimme, gimme more
It’s this sugar I adore
I’m so high, I know I’ll fly
Here comes the crash so
gimme, gimme, gimme more!

Give me the damn candy,
or whatever’s handy.
Sugar high, I’m set to fly
Kiss this evil world goodbye.

For anybody interested in the mood-food connection here’s a particularly interesting article on the latest.

Oh, CK you had to post this the day after I decided to cut most refined sugar out of my diet for three months. I love my sweets especially anything chocolate which is my one exception, I will be able to have one piece a day. However, no cookies, cakes, muffins, candy…all the good stuff for three months!!! I’m cutting that along with most carbs, the refined kind. Oh, I’m not sure how my mood will do with this change…maybe, I should talk to my therapist about it first. But, I have to do something.

Oh CC! I’m glad you’re giving it a shot though. It can genuinely help to even things out on the mood front but it’s hard. Really hard and so I wish you lots of luck with it, and yeah I’d agree probably have a chat to your T about it.
If I have one tip it’s probably try and avoid using those sugar-free substitutes much instead. They don’t actually satisfy any cravings unfortunately, and they always just made me miss my sugar so much I’d cave. Plus aspartame and such are just scary bad for your general health anyway.

    CK-

I don’t ever use sugar substitutes if it comes down to that a little of the real thing is better. The only, only time I will is for a Diet Coke a few times a year.

I forgot to talk to T about it, but go read my post and you will understand why.
